Writ against Party Chair Prachanda

Kathmandu, Mar. 5: The CPN (Maoist Centre) has expressed its concern over the registration of a writ over the statement by party Chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ a few years ago.

On January 15, 2020, while addressing a Maghi festival celebration event in Kathmandu, Dahal had said that he, as the leader of the Maoist party that led the decade-long rebellion, would take the responsibility for the deaths of 5,000 people and that the state should take responsibility for the remaining deaths. It is estimated that around 17,000 people had lost their lives during the decade-long revolution.

Issuing a statement today, the party general secretary Dev Gurung said the party rejects the Supreme Court’s March 3 order to register the writ against party Chair Dahal.

The statement added that the remark by Chair Prachanda at a certain programme by exercising his right to freedom of expression is misinterpreted and the registration of the writ against the same statement was driven by prejudice.
